When it comes to quartz composite stone, Cimstone is one of just a handful of specialist manufacturers around the world.
For more than 20 years, the Turkey-based company has been combining quartz with a polyester resin binder and pigments to create the product that bears its name – a durable, versatile, attractively coloured material for use in kitchen and bathroom countertops, flooring and cladding.
The company was already successfully exporting to more than 20 countries worldwide when in 2007 it decided there was potential to further develop its UK and European market share in the retail and wholesale sectors. Now, with expert support from Artaius, Cimstone has established its first branch outside Turkey, in Northampton.
Asil Tan, who has been seconded from Turkey to head the UK operation as UK director, explains: “We decided in September 2007 that we would set up in the UK and subsequently came over to check out warehousing.
“Although we eventually chose Northampton, because of the good transport links in the Midlands, we had originally considered locating in Cambridgeshire and contacted East of England International, the development agency for the region. They put us in touch with Artaius.”
As well as helping Cimstone with all the technical and regulatory issues involved in setting up in the UK – such as incorporation, dealing with HM Revenue & Customs and opening bank accounts – Artaius were also available to answer all Asil’s queries and questions.
He says: “Artaius have been an excellent source of information and they have contacts for everything. If I need to know anything, I just give them a call and they provide good guidance.”
With Cimstone established in the UK since the summer of 2008, Artaius’ role has developed from consultancy to ongoing accountancy support, on issues including the company’s accounts and payroll. Asil sums up: “It is the perfect service.”
