Volleyball England is the national governing body for volleyball in England. It is a membership organisation and supports the development of the sport all the way from grassroots play in schools and clubs through to elite England stars, and world-class Olympic athletes and Paralympians playing for the Great Britain squads. It represents everyone in volleyball, whether they be a volunteer helper, coach, referee or player.

Chief Executive Lisa Wainwright explains why Volleyball England turned to Artaius for support: "We needed to deal with two scenarios. One was that we had three different financial reporting packages operating at the same time - none of which quite gave us the information we needed. The second was that we lost our finance manager. We realised this was both a challenge and an opportunity. I had previous working experience with Melanie Troiano and I knew that she properly understood sport and financial management. So I decided to contact Artaius to help us.

"Melanie and a colleague came in, covering our financial operations and book-keeping, and looking at ways to consolidate our financial reporting. Whilst we would have been very comfortable keeping Melanie, we are an organisation that likes to bring people in and develop them. Using Artaius enabled us to fill the key financial management role, while we brought our systems together and recruited the right person for Volleyball England. Part of Artaius' role was to help us manage the induction of a new finance manager, which was extremely successful."

For Volleyball England's Chief Executive, it was Artaius' wide-ranging experience and listening approach that was crucial for success: "Their approach was to listen, and to seek to understand our business. So would Lisa Wainwright recommend that other organisations consider the interim management approach that Artaius provide for their problems? "Definitely. I think in terms of solving both our shortterm challenge by providing financial management, while we recruited the right finance manager, and the longer-term issue of finding a way to integrate our financial reporting systems, Artaius were excellent.
