Choosing a company name
Every company must have a registered name to distinguish it from other companies. The name can include geographical locations, names of the directors or can be completely made up.
Once you have selected your name you will need to have this checked to make sure that it does not conflict with other companies or contains words restricted by Companies House.
Artaius would be pleased to check your name without charge. If you would like us to do this for you, please click HERE.

What officers does a company require?
Every incorporated company must have at least one Director and, if it chooses, a Secretary.
The Directors are responsible for the management and day to day running of the company. You do not need any qualifications to be a Director and persons not of British nationality or resident abroad are generally also allowed to fill this role.
The Secretary is basically responsible for the administration of the company legal documents and registers. If there is no Secretary a Director would fulfill this role. Again for most companies there is generally no restriction on who may fill this role.

Registered Office
Every company must have a registered address to which documents will be sent by official bodies.
This does not have to be an office, but if you use a home address, the name of the company must be displayed at that address.
If you do not have a convenient address for this purpose, Artaius can provide a Registered Office service. Please contact us on 020 7616 8800 or email info@artaius.com for further details.

Share Capital
Every company is required to issue at least one share. The shareholders are the owners of the business and profits made by the company can be distributed to them. For most new or small companies, the directors will also be the company shareholders. However, as a company grows, shares may be given to other persons or outside investors.
We would be pleased to provide further advice on share capital.
